PLEASE follow these tips to keep your pets SAFE on 4th of July, and the days leading up to it.

💥If you have guests over, make sure your pet is in a separate room or crate so there is no risk of them sneaking out. Dogs can escape a fenced yard during fireworks, so make sure they’re inside! 🏠

💥Please make sure their ID tags and collars are on before fireworks start!

💥Dogs will pant a lot during fireworks from being so nervous. Make sure they have plenty of water💧

💥Play music or turn on the tv to help drown out the noise, and give them a chew toy to help distract them, and to give them a place to put their nervous energy. 🎶

💥See your vet for mild sedatives BEFORE THE 4th if you know your dog is especially scared of fireworks

Nala needs a new foster ASAP! She is also up for adoption 🌸
This sweet girl is only 2 years old and 42 lbs. She just finished nursing her puppies and now it’s time for her to find her loving home!
Nala is a very easy dog - she’s house trained, crate trained and rides well in the car (though she’s still a little scared to get in). She gets along with all people and other dogs.
She’s a young shepherd mix, so needs plenty of exercise. A yard isn’t necessary for her, as long as she gets to go out for walks (she’d love runs and hikes, too!)

Not quite sure how this amazing dog hasn’t been scooped up yet!
Apollo is a beautiful Dutch Shepherd who is just under 2 years old. He’s about 70 lbs of pure love. Apollo loves all people, in fact he loves them a little too much, and we’re teaching him not to jump up with excitement! He’s good with other dogs, rides great in the car, and is house trained and crate trained.
He’s a very active pup, so needs someone who can take him on hikes, runs, bike rides, or anything else active! He also would love a yard, but it’s not necessary if he’s getting plenty of exercise.
He’s good with kids, but he is a big pup and energetic, so small kids could get knocked over in his excitement 😳

Scrappy (and PPR) need some help. 😢
We try not to ask for help unless we really need it.
We rescued Scrappy from the shelter with a large mass that the shelter thought was just a lipoma. It turns out it’s an abdominal wall hernia. Our regular vet was all set to do this surgery, but once they had him shaved and on the OR table, they noticed this hernia had been repaired in the past, had come undone, and was surrounded with scar tissue. Because of how much scar tissue there is, he’ll need a skin graft done by a specialist in order to close the surgery site.
Not many vets were willing to do the surgery, and we finally found a surgical specialist who can do it. We were quoted $5,000-$7,000. Scrappy’s pending adopters have generously offered to pay anything north of $2500, but we still need to come up with the $2500 (plus the $150 consultation fee) to help Scrappy.
The surgery is relatively urgent, as fat can start to move through through the hernia, and then his organs will eventually try to make their way through the hernia as well.
Any amount will help. We, and Scrappy, greatly appreciate your generosity!

Congratulations to Lulu, Lola and their adopter on their happily ever after! ♥️
Remember Lulu and Lola? We took them in when a woman who lost her home needed somewhere for them to go when the shelter she was staying at wouldn’t let her keep them. We ended up taking them in as a favor to her while she got back on her feet. We covered all of their food, housing costs, medical bills and spays. We couldn’t have done all of that without all of your generous donations when we asked for help with them ♥️
After a few months, their owner let us know that she would not be able to take them back in, and asked us to find them great homes. As heartbroken as she was, their amazing foster fell in love with them, and decided to give them their forever homes together 💕🐾.

Tyson (now Nugget) is being surrendered back to us and needs a foster ASAP! He is a 9 month old 70 lb black lab mix puppy who needs an experienced foster to help with his training.
He currently doesn’t have any boundaries, so gets protective of his people. He needs a foster who can help him learn structure, and exercise him enough, as he is a high energy pup. Someone who loves to hike, run or walk would be great for him!
He is good with other dogs, and is very loyal and loving with his people.
No kids for him at the moment.

Maxwell is deaf and can get spooked easily, so we recommend a home without young children. He’s needs slow introductions to other dogs to try and get used to them, so may do well in a home without other dogs.

Nugget (FKA Tyson) was one of the terrified lab mix puppies we rescued from a field out in San Bernardino last November.
He is now an approx 70 lb, 9 month old energetic puppy!
He is being returned to us, and needs a foster home ASAP!
He is a giant puppy who needs manners and structure. He is high energy so would do best in an active household, with someone who can exercise him. He needs someone willing to teach him boundaries, so he stops acting like a spoiled, unruly puppy.
He does well with other dogs, but plays rough, so a home with other large playful dogs would be great.
Because he’s all over the place right now, he shouldn’t go to a home with small kids.

KARO needs a temp foster from June 16-19! 💜
Karo is such a cutie, but she can also be a toughie. No kids for her, and she needs experienced and patient fosters!
She is only about 11 pounds and 11 years old. She's not great with strangers, so a new foster pretty much just needs to leave her alone. No cuddling, just let her be.
I know, this makes her sound bad, but her fosters say she's actually a really sweet and loving dog most of the time (once she gets to know her people). She’s good with calm dogs who don’t get in her space.
She also needs a long term foster, but the temporary June 16-19 is most urgent.
All food and supplies will be supplied!

Speaking of needing big dog fosters, here are 2 sweet huskies we’d like to save from an uncertain fate at the shelters.
📸 First photo is Bucky! He is a 2 year old husky mix who was found laying in the street after being hit by a car. A staff member at our vet office saved him, but they couldn’t save his badly injured leg 😢He is the cutest tripawed dog, and he doesn’t let having one less leg slow him down! He’s very active and playful, and likes to play with other dogs! He has been tested with small dogs. He is house trained.
📸second picture is Holly. She lived with Violet (who we rescued already) and her owner needs her out ASAP or she’s going to the overcrowded shelter 😖 she also is good with other dogs and is house trained. She’s high energy, as she’s a husky, but she’s not as high energy as Bucky is.

We are begging for big dog fosters.
Our boarding full and we don’t have any fosters for big dogs. Not only have we already committed to taking some big dogs in to avoid them being sent to the overcrowded shelter, but shelters are reaching out to us directly begging us to save their big dogs from euthanasia, as well as shelters including us in their pleas to all rescues in LA, ON TOP of tons of people trying to surrender their dogs to us AND 4th of July coming up, we are drowning in requests to help save big dogs.
We opened PPR wanting to help the often over looked dogs, and now we find ourselves struggling to do that.
Even if we can save 1 big dog right now (that saves that 1 dog, and opens up another space at the shelter, so it’s saving 2), we’ll take it.
Dogs are getting killed at very fast rates in shelters right now. Please, if you’ve ever thought about fostering, please consider fostering a big dog now. Now is the time to literally save lives.

Meet 2 year old Remy! Remy was rescued by very kind people from a bad situation where he was abused, starved and neglected. He is in good hands now but they unfortunately cannot keep him. We are seeking a foster home for Remy so that we can take him in and eventually find him his forever family. This playful young boy is (from what we know so far) leashtrained, housetrained, good with people and other dogs. He has even lived with a one year old child before without issue! The ability of dogs to show love even after experiencing horrific things is truly remarkable and we hope to show him nothing but love and tenderness from here on out! Welcome to PPR, PJ! Now he just needs a foster!
We rescued this tiny (less than 10 lbs) chihuahua/Maltese mix from a life lived on a balcony (last 2 photos). PJ’s owner passed away, and his children took him in so that he would avoid the shelter, which was great. But unfortunately PJ spent his time alone on the balcony while they looked for a rescue who could take him. When they reached out, we knew we had to get him off that balcony and into PPR, and they were grateful we could help him!
He is very sweet, but timid. He gets along with other dogs, though seems nervous around big dogs. He desperately needs a groom, which we are scheduling for him.
He LOVES the yard and grass.
We are told he is 9 years old.
He’s a happy little guy who like to follows you around and get belly rubs!
So far he seems house trained, though it’s a little too soon too now for sure.
Please let us know if you can give PJ all of the love and pampering he deserves - he’s had a rough few months. We will provide all food, supplies, medical and grooming 🥰

Nala’s puppies are ready for foster homes! We’d like for them to go fosters in groups of 2 or 3.
They are available for adoption, but must go with a sibling (even if that sibling is just being fostered) for at least a week, preferably 2.
